HE DO AT GRC LAS VEGAS
Despite qualifying 2nd overall on Friday prior to Saturday’s Global RallyCross race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, MWRT’s Ken Block was assaulted at the start of the final by a certain black racecar. After taking first in his heat—which had two restarts due to competitors jumping the starting light—Block entered the round 5 final seated 2nd on the grid between fellow Ford drivers Tanner Foust on his inside and Brian Deegan on his outside. Once the green light dropped though, things went south for Block—fast. Going into turn 1, Block suffered an injustice at the hands of the previously mentioned black car, which was lined up behind the driver’s side of Block on the second row of the grid, and subsequently used Block’s HFHV as a braking zone and punted him from behind during that same turn. (see video below) This hit knocked Block off course and dropped to the back of the pack. While he tried to claw his way back towards the front of the pack, the damage to his race was already done. Block ended the race in 7th overall, good for 11 points towards the GRC points standing, where he know sits 4th overall.“I’m super disappointed with how today’s race went for me,” said Block. “We ran great in practice and qualifying and I had a wild heat in which I was able to secure first and a spot on the front row of the grid for the final. Unfortunately, whomever it was that hit me from behind going into that first turn booted me off course enough that the race was lost for me. I lost too much time and distance on the front of the pack by the time I was back on course. It sucks, but that’s racing. We’ll be back to try again at the final round 6 here in about a month.”
Block’s next driving appearance will be at the Monster Energy Monster Cup, doing gymkhana demos prior to the SuperCross race on Saturday, October 20th.
