WINTER RALLY SCHOOL

Because Its Christmas I want to write about what happens with Rally driving and if anything special is going on . For me I would really like to have a go at driving so I have investigated if there are any driving schools that do it. It is only a dream but I have found a place in Norway
called John Hauland winter rally school

WINTER RALLY SCHOOL
The school is training both racing and rally drivers, to drive in slippery conditions, by using snow and ice on a frozen lake and snow-covered special stages. On the lake there is snowbanks and run-off areas, and so there is less risk of damage to the cars. We run 2 types of courses : One to one tuition, where the driver has tuition tailor-made to his/her needs. Or 4 days courses. The format of the 4 days courses is that we have a maximum of 5 drivers.
We drive for the first 2 days on the track, and if appropriate the last 2 days on special stages. The hour of theory each day covers driving technique, set-up, personal preparation and pace-notes. All driving is under the regulations of the Norwegian Motorsport Authority, and normal safety equipment must be used ie overalls, helmets, roll-cages etc.
Only competition cars are authorised to be used. Instructors will sit in with the driver part of the time, so a helmet with intercom is necessary.
The school is based in Geilo at Bardøla Hotel and the tracks are 30 minutes drive away. Lunch is served at the track each day. Most drivers bring their own cars but rallycars are available for hire.
Geilo is 300 km. North West of Oslo. 3,5 hours by car and 4 hours by train.
You can fly to Oslo Gardermoen airport with scheduled major air companies, or Oslo Torp with Ryanair. From Torp it is 4 hours drive by hire car.
Other activities we have organised are car launches, corporate days, courses for driving enthusiasts, eg. Car clubs, groups of friends etc.
Please contact us for information and quote. Other activities we can arrange include sledging, skiing, snowscooters.

KEN BLOCK KEEPS RACING DESPITE COCKPIT FIRE

-part 2

MWRT’s Ken Block threw down a commanding performance at the final stop of the 2012 Global RallyCross season in Vegas last week—a race he dominated from the start: qualifying first, winning both of his heats and going on to lead the first five laps of the final. And, Block would have likely won the entire event, had the interior of his Ford Fiesta HFHV not decided to catch on fire! But in true "press on regardless" fashion, Ken Block kept going despite the smoke and flames. Unfortunately once the fire spread to vital electrical components, he was forced to retire. But to celebrate Ken Block's "ain't care" style, the Hoonigans have released this video depicting Block's desire to win overriding any logical sense of self preservation that the rest of humanity might have.
“Yep, my car definitely decided to set itself on fire during the final at SEMA,” said Block. “I noticed the fire, but I was in the lead and really, really wanted to lock in the win. I figured that maybe I could try and keep going and make it to the finish before it got too bad. Hell, the only reason Tanner [Foust] was able to get past me was that I got distracted looking down to make sure my leg wasn’t on fire. But, eventually, when my ECU fell over from the mounting points melting in the fire, I realized I should probably pull over and try to put the fire out. I’m still gutted about it, but at least the in-car footage is awesome!”

NNNNNOOOOOOO

WHAT THE **************
HE DO AT GRC LAS VEGAS
Despite qualifying 2nd overall on Friday prior to Saturday’s Global RallyCross race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, MWRT’s Ken Block was assaulted at the start of the final by a certain black racecar. After taking first in his heat—which had two restarts due to competitors jumping the starting light—Block entered the round 5 final seated 2nd on the grid between fellow Ford drivers Tanner Foust on his inside and Brian Deegan on his outside. Once the green light dropped though, things went south for Block—fast. Going into turn 1, Block suffered an injustice at the hands of the previously mentioned black car, which was lined up behind the driver’s side of Block on the second row of the grid, and subsequently used Block’s HFHV as a braking zone and punted him from behind during that same turn. (see video below) This hit knocked Block off course and dropped to the back of the pack. While he tried to claw his way back towards the front of the pack, the damage to his race was already done. Block ended the race in 7th overall, good for 11 points towards the GRC points standing, where he know sits 4th overall.
“I’m super disappointed with how today’s race went for me,” said Block. “We ran great in practice and qualifying and I had a wild heat in which I was able to secure first and a spot on the front row of the grid for the final. Unfortunately, whomever it was that hit me from behind going into that first turn booted me off course enough that the race was lost for me. I lost too much time and distance on the front of the pack by the time I was back on course. It sucks, but that’s racing. We’ll be back to try again at the final round 6 here in about a month.”
Block’s next driving appearance will be at the Monster Energy Monster Cup, doing gymkhana demos prior to the SuperCross race on Saturday, October 20th.
